Assoc. Prof. Tsonka Lukanova is head of department at First Clinic of Abdominal Surgery, Military Medical Academy, Sofia since 2020. She started working at Military hospital in 2009 as a member of the Clinic of Hepato-pancreato-biliary Surgery and Transplantation, being before that a resident in general surgery at Second Department of Surgery at “Alexandrovska” University Hospital. She has attended numerous education courses and training programs in minimal access surgery, HPB and colorectal oncological surgery, has over 100 participations in national and international scientific forums and over 100 publications in academic journals. Her special interests in surgery of rare tumors can be followed in time: a preceptorship on neuroendocrine tumors, held up in Uppsala University, Sweden, 2018, her Ph.D. thesis – ” Surgical Treatment of Rare Pancreatic Tumors”, defended in 2019 and a monography, titled “Mucinous Cystic Liver Neoplasms”, that was published in 2020. She has been awarded for academic achievement, improving diagnostics ant therapeutic work in health system by Bulgarian Medical Association and Ministry of Health.
