Assoc. Prof. Veselin Popov, MD is a radiation oncologist at the Radiation Oncology Clinic, UMBAL “St. Georgi” – EAD, Plovdiv. He started working in the hospital in 2016 as a specialist doctor. Topic of his PhD work is “Study of markers of tumor activity in patients with brain metastases undergoing robotic stereotactic radiosurgery”.  He is an associate Professor at the Department of Clinical Oncology at the Medical University of Plovdiv. He has a master’s degree in health management. He is currently a scientific supervisor of two PhD students in oncology.

Conducts a number of specializations in the field of radiation oncology with a focus on high-tech radiotherapy (VMAT, IMRT), as well as radiosurgery (SRS, SRT, SBRT): Regional Training Course on Theranostics and Molecular Radiotherapy in Brussels, Belgium (02-06.10. 2017); Participation in the 3rd South East European Prostate Cancer Forum, Bucharest (03.2018); One-month specialization in radiosurgery in Germany (05.2018) under European Project “Doctoral-2”; ESTRO Pre-meeting Course, Barcelona (2018); Radiosurgery training in Istanbul, Turkey (2019).

Assoc. Dr. V. Popov, MD regularly participates in international professional forums: ESTRO (Barcelona 2018), ELCC (Geneva 2018), ESMO (Barcelona 2019), ESMO (Paris 2021), ESTRO (Copenhagen 2022), as well as in national ones. He accepts an invitation to be a guest speaker at the Symposium on World Cancer Research (Singapore, 2022). There are publications in peer-reviewed and indexed journals in an international database, incl. with IF. Also he is a member of the Editorial Review Board for the journal Technology in Cancer Research & Treatment (IF 3,399).

He published a monograph on “Fundamentals of stereotactic radiosurgery in cranial and extracranial tumor formations”.

He participated in 6 projects – intra-university and European.

He is a member of the Expert Council on “Radiation Oncology” at the Ministry of Health and also a member of the Faculty Council at the Faculty of Medicine, MU-Plovdiv (from 2019 to the present).
